Prince William posts touching childhood photo with his "father," Prince Charles, on Father's Day.
Prince William honored his father, Prince Charles, on Father's Day with a photo of the two enjoying some one-on-one father-son time.
On Sunday, June 16, the Prince of Wales posted an old photo of the two kicking a small ball around on the grass. Prince Charles is wearing a suit and tie and smiling as he tries to kick a colorful soccer-like ball. Young Prince William appears to be waddling around the yard in a white and blue striped T-shirt, jeans all around, white socks and black buckled shoes.
"Happy Father's Day, Dad," the prince captioned the photo, which was shared on Kensington Palace's social media accounts.
The prince signed the post with a simple "W," proving that even the most meaningful sentiments on the day to commemorate fathers can sometimes be brief.
The Father's Day post came a day after the Royal Family made a public appearance at this year's Trooping the Colour to mark the monarch's second official birthday.
This year's ceremony was particularly poignant because it was the first Trooping the Colour since the King was diagnosed with unspecified cancer, and Kate Middleton's first official public appearance since also being diagnosed with cancer.11]
A spokesman for Kensington Palace told People that following the Princess of Wales' surprise appearance at Trooping the Colour to present an update on her cancer treatment,
her husband was "pleased that the Princess has begun to participate in work and projects that are important to her."
"He will continue to focus his time on supporting his wife and children while continuing his public work," a spokesman added at the time.
According to royal historian Gareth Russell, who previously told Us Weekly, Prince William was "not emotionally prepared" for his wife and father being diagnosed with cancer at the same time.
"Yes, [the king] was old, but his father was very healthy, lived well, ate well, and according to his wife, Queen Camilla, was famous for never stopping to walk," Russell told the magazine, referring to the obvious shock Prince William felt at the time.
Russell went on to say that "so far," the prince has shown that he is "more than capable and competent" to follow in his father's giant footsteps as he continues his cancer treatment.
"William feels a deep sense of duty to protect the stability of the monarchy and to inspire confidence in the public that everything will be okay," a source told Us Weekly in April. It's an immense responsibility."
