During her battle with cancer, Princess Kate's strength, dignity, and devotion to her duties are reminiscent of the late Queen Elizabeth, according to royal experts.
We know that King Charles and the Crown Princess were reportedly closer than ever despite their unfortunate double cancer diagnosis, but today is Trooping the Colour, and in honor of the monarch's birthday, what was Kate's relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth Was there.
The Daily Mail reported that after Kate married into the royal family in 2011, Kate saw the late Queen Elizabeth as her "guiding light" and, for her part, the late Queen Elizabeth came to trust Kate so much that they shared "a grandmotherly bond."
Richard Kay of the new documentary "Kate & The Queen: The Daily Mail" elaborated on the special bond shared between the two: "The Queen came to trust Kate. The Queen has come to trust Kate. We are all playing the same show. But Kate and the queen went deeper than that; there was a real grandmotherly affection between them."
Queen Elizabeth died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96, but the two met when Kate was still a student at the University of St. Andrews, where she met her future husband, Prince William, in 2001. Ingrid Sward, royal biographer and editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, said, "I think the Queen saw Kate's strength and saw that she was a caring person and had great loyalty to duty. 'I think Kate really appreciated the Queen's kindness and care. She took the time to make Kate feel appreciated."
That bond was further strengthened after Kate welcomed three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, and "made a great effort to involve the late Queen in the children's lives," the Daily Mail wrote.
"It is very special for us to welcome a new girl into our family," Kate herself said in the 2016 documentary The Queen at 90.
"We are so lucky that George has a little sister. I think as soon as we came back to Kensington [Palace], the Queen was one of our first visitors."One of Charlotte's middle names is a tribute to Elizabeth. (Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, which is also a tribute to her late grandmother, Princess Diana.) ) "I think the queen is very fond of Charlotte and always watches what she's doing," Kate said of the queen. George is only two and a half years old, but he calls her 'Gungans.' When we go to stay over, the girls always leave a little gift or something in her room.
After Kate officially joined the royal family in 2011 and subsequently became an active royal, "The queen must have had a technique for making someone feel at home, because she perfectly understood how difficult it was for an outsider to join the royal family," said royal correspondent Simon Viger. Royal expert Victoria Murphy added that Kate always referred to the queen as a "gentle guide": "From the beginning, Kate had a lot in common personality-wise with Elizabeth. Murphy said, "Kate and Elizabeth had a lot in common personality-wise from the beginning."
India MacTaggart, another royal correspondent (in MacTaggart's case for The Telegraph), added: "Catherine said that the queen was very supportive when she got engaged for the first time without William. Princess Catherine said that the Queen was very supportive of her first engagement without William.
In 2016, Kate said that the late Queen never "forced her opinion," adding, "I think the most memorable engagement for me was the away day to Leicester. 'I think there is a real art to the walk. My whole family teases me that I spend too much time talking, so I guess I still need to learn a little more and pick up some tips."
Of the queen, Kate said, "She was very supportive. The fact that she took the time to make sure I was happy and taken care of for that special occasion is probably a very small part of everything she does, but it just shows how caring she is"
.
She went on to say of her late grandmother-in-law, "You would expect a lot of grandeur and a lot of fuss, but really, what really resonates with me is her love for the simple things," Kate said. 'I think that's a very special quality. Recalling her first Christmas at Sandringham with the Queen and the rest of the Royal Family, she added, "I think that's a very special quality." I remember the first time I went to Sandringham for Christmas. I was wondering what to get the Queen for her Christmas present." Kate said in 2016. Kate said in 2016, "I was like, 'I'm going to make her something.' I thought, 'I'll make her something,' but I might have messed it up badly. But I decided to make my grandma's recipe for chutney. The next day, I noticed it on the table. Such a simple gesture meant so much to me."
[7Kate would no doubt be thrilled to hear that 13 years later, her marriage to William is often compared to that of the Queen and her husband Prince Philip, who were married for 73 years until Prince Philip's death in April 2021.
