Maren Morris comes out as bisexual in celebration of Pride Month
Maren Morris came out as bisexual in honor of Pride Month 2024.
The country music icon posted a series of photos of herself on Instagram, including one of her holding a pride flag."
With the caption, "Glad to be an LGBTQ+ B,"
Morris wished her followers a "Happy Pride.
After her confession, fans quickly embraced the singer, with fellow singer-songwriter Alison Ponchier writing, "HAPPY PRIDE! Thank you for being an inspiration and what a special pride this is."
She wrote, "Being a B is hard and having public representation helps us all. Thank you!!!
This is the first time the country star has spoken out directly about her LGBTQ+ identity, but she has long been a vocal supporter of the community.
Most recently, she spoke out against Harrison Bakker's viral graduation speech.
And in 2023, Morris appeared on an episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race" and apologized for the country music industry's often hostile attitude toward the LGBTQ+ community. She said, "In terms of country music's relationship with LGBTQ+ members, I just want to say I'm sorry. 'I love you guys for making me feel like a brave voice in country music. So I just really appreciate you guys for inspiring me."
Unfortunately, the country industry is still intolerant in many ways, including supporting various gender identities and sexual orientations.
Kelsea Ballerini is another of a new generation of country stars who, like Morris, is determined to change that. Ballerini performed with drag queens at the Country Music Television Awards in 2023.
As for Morris, she was previously married to fellow country singer Ryan Hurd, with whom she shares a son, Hayes, 4. The two have been married for five years and together for eight.
