King Charles jokes about his grandson at state dinner

King Charles is not afraid to tell the tried-and-true grandpa joke, despite his ongoing treatment for an unspecified cancer.

When hosting a state dinner in honor of Japan's Emperor and Empress, King Charles gave a speech highlighting how Japanese and British cultures have influenced each other, especially with regard to the decades-old phenomenon Pokemon.

"Unfortunately, I have had no luck with my recent fishing attempts." The Pokemon phrase, "You gotta catch 'em all," may resonate with my grandchildren, but for me, it's probably wishful thinking! . King Charles joked, noting that his fly-fishing skills are not very good.

Apparently, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, children of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, and possibly Prince Harry, are big fans of Japanese media spanning video games, animated TV series, hit movies, and the hugely popular trading card game They seem to be big fans of the franchise.

In a video filmed by Sky News and shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Prince Charles' son Prince William can be seen responding to his father's, well, father jokes and smiling while his father continues his remarks and the evening's proceedings.

According to a source who recently spoke to Us Weekly, Prince Charles is heartbroken that he has not had the opportunity to spend more time with Prince Harry's children and "wants the same kind of relationship with his American grandchildren that he enjoys with his grandchildren in England."

"Spending just a few days together and only having video calls on the big day has left a big hole in Prince Harry's heart," a source told the magazine at the time, referring to Prince Archie's relationship with Princess Lilibet.

"Prince Charles wants to get closer to Harry and have a relationship that actually works with his son," royal author Tom Quinn told the Mirror in a recent interview.

"But this depends on Harry giving his father ironclad assurances that he won't publish any more books or give any more embarrassing interviews."[15

Quinn further stated that the monarch "is discussing an official visit to the United States at some point in the future."

"If that were to happen, he would certainly make time to visit his youngest son and grandson," Quinn added.

"But there is a mountain of planning that needs to be overcome before that possibility becomes even remotely remote."

According to a recent report in the Mirror, Prince Charles is not satisfied with the few video calls he has had with his grandchildren across the pond.

"The king is absolutely obsessed with being present in all of his grandchildren's lives," a source told the magazine at the time. Whatever his relationship with his son, he will never be satisfied with nothing more than video calls with his grandchildren."

The same source added that Queen Camilla "is also understood to be the driving force behind his decision to intensify his efforts to meet his other grandchildren."
