Rachel McAdams' wedding dress in the movie "The Notebook" was inspired by the most beloved royal wedding dress of all time

Grace Kelly's 1956 wedding dress, in which she married Rainier III of Monaco, is not only one of the most iconic royal wedding dresses of all time. And in addition to not knowing how many real-life brides it has inspired in the 68 years since Grace walked down the aisle in it on that April 19, it has also inspired Rachel McAdams' role in the 2004 film "The Notebook" and her wedding dress also inspired it, "People" reported.

McAdams played Allison "Ally" Hamilton in the film, opposite Ryan Gosling, who played Noah Calhoun. The film, based on Nicholas Sparks' 1996 novel of the same name, follows Allie and Noah, who turn 20 yesterday and fall in love in 1940s South Carolina. The film's costume designer, Caryn Wagner, said, "I'm very particular about storytelling, so I created about 90% of the costumes," one of which was Allie's wedding dress.

Allie was to marry Ron Hammond Jr. (played by James Marsden) during a break in her relationship with Noah, and Wagner looked to Grace's dress (which had not yet materialized, as Grace had married in 1956) for inspiration for Allie's dress. He noted. Even if you didn't know her well, you'd have seen her wedding photos," Wagner said. 'She's gorgeous, gorgeous in her dress. I wanted to use Allie's dress as a reference."

Allie's white lace dress, with its veil and long sleeves, resembles Grace's dress, designed by Helen Rose, then costume designer at MGM Studios. Says Wagner, "I wanted the amount of lace on the dress and the size of the veil to represent the wealth of the family." Dating back to the taste laws during World War II, the dress either belonged to her great-grandmother in the Victorian era or was flown in from France to "I don't care what the price is, my daughter is getting married, and I don't care how much it costs. So there's a lot of that in that wedding dress."

Wagner also added that the dress was intentionally designed to make McAdams uncomfortable. 'The dress was meant to make her realize that she wasn't happy about this,' he said. She wasn't happy. She didn't really want to be here."
