Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hope to "trigger a truce" with Kate Middleton, and are "relieved and pleased to hear that she is back on her feet.

When the Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis to the world via video message on March 22, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released a statement, especially in light of the conspiracy theories surrounding Kate at the time, saying, "We wish Kate and her family health and healing, and that they are at peace personally and We hope they can do so."

Kate continues to undergo treatment for cancer, but as she returns to the public eye at the annual "Trooping the Colour" parade and flypast on June 15, Harry and Meghan are "desperately" trying to connect with Kate and are "hoping it will be the start of a truce," OK reports.

"Both Harry and Meghan are watching Kate's recovery with great interest, but sadly have had to watch from afar as their lines of communication with the Palace and the Welsh family are very limited, to say the least," said one source.

"They have enough information to know that people are excited about the idea of Kate's return and are relieved and pleased to hear that she is on the mend and may soon be well enough to return to her duties."

They further stated that although "they have reached out to jointly send their blessings, they are still not really in place to warrant much response with Kate," but that has "not stopped them from trying to connect."

It probably goes without saying at this point that the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family have had a strained relationship over the past few years, but health fears are a great bonding agent for the Royal Family, and for any family, and often provide a perspective on life.

As Kate returns to the limelight after being away from the public eye for almost all of 2024, sources say it is Harry and Meghan's hope that her recovery "may trigger a truce with her [Prince William] and the king. Although they don't always agree with Kate, when it comes to Princess Meghan, "her heart is with Kate," the source said. Meghan has made it clear that she wants nothing more than to get over the crap and find a path toward healing for everyone." Princess Meghan is ready to let go of her anger and resentment."

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told The Sun that public messages of support might be the Sussexes' way of offering an olive branch, and as for a possible reconciliation between the Sussexes and the royal family, "You never know what will happen. It is clear that any friction is undesirable, and I think it is even more undesirable if the individuals involved in it are ill." In addition to Kate, who is battling cancer, so is Harry's father, King Charles.

One source told The Sun in response to Fitzwilliams' proposal, "I must say that this perspective seems somewhat one-sided. For balanced reporting, it is important to acknowledge that relationships are reciprocal. It would not be entirely fair to place the responsibility for repairing the relationship solely on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex."

But the mending has to start somewhere, and as Fitzwilliams rightly pointed out, "Time can heal things. Serious illness can certainly change things."

We hope he is right in this case.
