Prince William gets in front of the camera in new documentary
Prince William is set to follow in the footsteps of his estranged brother Prince Harry and step in front of the camera for a new documentary.
In a post shared on the official Kensington Palace Facebook page, the prince announced both the Saatchi Gallery exhibition and an ITV documentary focusing on the "Homewards" program, a royal initiative to end homelessness. [According to People, the two-part ITV television series, titled Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, will air this fall on both ITV1 and ITVX and will feature Prince William's "launch of Homewards across the UK and the current homelessness and capturing the stories of people who are currently facing or have actually experienced homelessness.
The series will focus on six locations where Prince William, supporters, and project leaders are working to end homelessness, and will only document the first year of the Prince's five-year initiative: Aberdeen, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Lambeth, New Port, Northern Ireland and Sheffield.
"We celebrate the first anniversary of @homewardsuk! ' the prince wrote in a caption accompanying his Instagram announcement. 'Coming soon: saatchi_gallery exhibition. itv documentary. While we work to show that ending homelessness is possible, #Homewards is about changing the narrative and deepening our understanding of what it means to be homeless."
Prince William's goal of ending homelessness is said to be one of the many influences left behind by his late mother, Princess Diana, who, as People magazine points out, made it a habit from an early age to take her two sons with her when she visited homeless shelters, and who was a strong advocate for the less fortunate She incorporated her sons into many efforts to better serve the disadvantaged.
Like his mother, Prince William is a patron of Centrepoint, a homeless outreach organization.
"Over the past year, we have spent time following Prince William and the Royal Foundation through the first year of the 'Homewards' program," Leo Burley, who is directing the series, said in a statement obtained by People. We've heard incredibly moving stories from people across the country facing homelessness."
"This documentary portrays homelessness across the UK today, working with many people who never thought they would experience life without a place to call home," Burley added.
"Everyone we have filmed with has welcomed the fact that Prince William and Homewards will be shining a spotlight on homelessness in the UK."
Of course, the Prince of Wales is not the only member of the royal family to step in front of the camera for the documentary that tells the whole story.
Most recently, his brother Prince Harry released the Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan. The documentary chronicles the royal couple as they navigate through royal protocol, endless tabloid scrutiny, family friction, and a move to the United States, taking sides in the famous (or infamous, depending on which side of the so-called royal feud you stand).
