'Bridgerton' Casting Director Says He Receives Tons of 'Unsolicited' Audition Tapes: 'Not Nude Pictures, But Not Far Off'
Bridgerton casting director Kelly Valentine Hendry was able to delete some of the audition tapes she constantly receives.
Appearing on the latest episode of the "Should I Delete That" podcast, Hendry revealed that "90 percent" of her inbox is saturated with emails from fans who want to be on the show and send her clearly X-rated content.
"Every day. ...... I get incredible videos as junk mail," Hendry explained to hosts Alex Wright and Em Clarkson (as transcribed by The Hollywood Reporter).
"It's basically sex. It's not actual sex, but it packs quite a punch. It's not a nude photo, but it's not far off. It's kind of sad, really."
Obviously, for Hendry, this phenomenon occurs because "Bridgerton" is a rather racy show, with fairly explicit sex scenes and nudity appearing on screen fairly regularly.
In this regard, the casting director also noted how much discourse there is about Nicolas Coughlan's sex scene in season 3 because her body type is different from what is typically seen on television.
"She's not super skinny, so people saw her and felt represented," Hendry said on the podcast. She later added, "Wouldn't it be great if we could get to a place where that wasn't discussed?" She added.
Coughlan herself mentioned her decision to shoot a nude scene for the series.
"We had a lot of control and chose how naked we were," she told theSkimm in May. 'People said she did it to show off her body-shamers. But I didn't. I did it completely selfishly. I did it because I wanted to do it and there is something incredibly empowering about it."
[18Finally, she grew tired of the discourse and said in a live Q&A:" It's hard for a woman with my body type, a woman with perfect breasts, because she can't see herself enough on the screen.
"I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it, but I've seen it.
