Travis Kelsey Turns Down Netflix Reality Show to Focus on Other Projects: "I've Had Enough of Reality Shows"
Travis Kelce, who will make his acting debut in Ryan Murphy's horror series Grotesquerie, has certainly been on TV before, and not just during Kansas City Chiefs games. Lest we forget, before he dated Taylor Swift, he was on the reality dating show Catching Kelce. (In a monologue from March 2023, when he hosted Saturday Night Live, he said of "The Bachelor" that "it was like 'The Bachelor' except instead of roses, they handed out footballs.")
He also said that "I've been on 'The Bachelorette' for a long time."
In a recent appearance on the "Bussin' with the Boys" podcast, Kelsey, after being asked about his participation in streaming giant Netflix's 2023 series "Receiver," which follows the series "Quarterback," said that his involvement in the genre completely "done," he replied. (The series also features Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota.)
"I was asked about my appearance after Pat was on the show," Kelsey said. 'I don't know. I just want to play ball. I'm already doing enough with podcasts and everything," Kelce said of the "New Heights" podcast he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. He added, in the coup de grace, "To hell with reality already. I'm out of that shitty show."
Returning to his SNL monologue, Kels joked about his past reality TV experiences." It was a little embarrassing, but I got really good at reality TV."
Kelsey has tried his hand at excelling at scripted television, telling listeners on "New Heights" on May 14 that he "had a lot of fun" with the grotesque.
"Ryan Murphy is an incredible writer, director, producer, all of that. There's nothing he can't do, and everyone made me feel comfortable, which really helped."He added, "On top of that, he gives me the direction I need and the coaching I need to play the roles I'm in," he told People.
With the exception of Kelsey, the show continues-that is, the receivers, who will follow five NFL stars throughout their 2023 season and beyond on Netflix. Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and Amon La St. Brown will get their reality star turns when Receivers premieres on July 10 with eight episodes, reports People.
If you need your Kells reality fix and are disappointed you won't get it in The Receiver, there is still an Amazon Prime Video documentary on the Kells brothers, following Jason Kells "toward the end of his career" and "the had the ups and downs of fighting," Kells said of his brother, per Deadline.
"I think he took the right path. But that's just the way he is, and I don't have the desire to do that. I just want to focus on the ball."
And he has to - Kelce reported to Chiefs training camp on July 21, prior to the team's first game against the Baltimore Ravens on September 5.
