Princess Charlotte's adorable reaction to her mother, Princess Kate, receiving a standing ovation at Wimbledon.
Kate Middleton arrived at this year's Wimbledon men's final to an emotional standing ovation as she continues her cancer treatment.
On Sunday, July 14, the Princess of Wales arrived at Wimbledon for her second official appearance since being diagnosed with unspecified cancer. Middleton has made it a point to attend Wimbledon every year as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, but this year, given her health, her attendance loomed something of a question mark.
So it came as little surprise when Middleton appeared in a purple Safiya dress with a shirley-patterned bodice and softly flared skirt, and the crowd gave her a standing ovation, a reaction typical of her daughter Princess Charlotte.
The Wimbledon crowd stood up and Princess Charlotte beamed with pride as she looked up at her mother. In response, Princess Kate waved back to the crowd and reportedly smiled, visibly moved and emotional by the gesture.
In an interview with People, photographer Karwai Tan, who was there and captured the emotional moment, said that the royal "usually comes in" and "goes down the stairs to her seat."
"She doesn't usually stand and wave. But she stood there for a while, taking it all in." It was special for her to acknowledge it and receive the applause."
To mark her second official public appearance, Middleton posted what appeared to be a "welcome back" message on Instagram, along with several photos of the royal family at Wimbledon.
"Glad to be back at Wimbledon!" was the caption shared on the official Kensington Palace Instagram account." There is nothing better than the Championships 🎾."
On Saturday, July 13, Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate Middleton will attend this year's Wimbledon men's final despite continuing preventive treatment for cancer. Earlier reports indicated that the royal family had their hearts set on attending, but that ultimately her husband, Prince William, would decide whether it was safe and appropriate for the Princess of Wales to attend
.
Middleton is a longtime fan of both tennis and Wimbledon.
"It's no secret that she really wants to be there, but as she herself said when she was undergoing chemotherapy, there are good days and bad days," a friend close to the royal family recently told The Daily Beast.
"A lot depends on the timing of the treatment. She made it to Trooping the Colour in time, so if she makes it to Wimbledon, she will make it."
Thankfully, all went well and Princess Charlotte, and the world, had the opportunity to see Princess Kate enjoy familiar places and competitions.
