Kensington Palace confirms Princess Kate's attendance at Wimbledon during her cancer treatment.
It's official! Kate Middleton will be attending this year's Wimbledon Championships in person.
According to People, Kensington Palace has confirmed that Princess Kate will be in the crowd at the men's singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday, July 14.
However, Princess Kate will not be visiting the England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on Saturday to present the women's champion with her hard-won trophy, the Venus Rosewater Dish.
Instead, Wimbledon chairwoman Debbie Jevans will present the women's championship trophy on behalf of the Princess of Wales, reports the Daily Mail.
Until now, Middleton's possible attendance has been something of a lingering question mark, mainly because she has remained out of the public eye while she continues her private, preventative cancer treatment and recovers with her immediate family.9]
According to a close friend of Middleton, this year's Wimbledon will be attended by " (It's no secret that [Princess Kate] sincerely wants to be there," but added, "When you're undergoing chemotherapy, as she herself said, you have good days and bad days."
Middleton's friend said that she was "very excited about it.
"It depends a lot on the timing of the treatment," a source told The Daily Beast in a recent interview." She made it to Trooping the Colour in time, so if she makes it to Wimbledon, she will."
According to Paul Burrell, a former royal butler who worked for the royal family for 21 years, the decision on whether Princess Kate would attend Wimbledon this year ultimately rested with her husband, Prince William.
"William runs this household, and William decides if Princess Kate can go to Wimbledon. There is no way he would interfere with Kate in a way that she could not handle." [With William by her side, Kate is safe.
In a 2017 BBC documentary titled "Sue Barker: Our Wimbledon," the Princess of Wales, patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Croquet Club, said that watching Wimbledon confessed that it was "part of my growing up."
"I think Wimbledon is the quintessential British summer and an inspiration to young people. 'That hasn't changed. I think that's what's so great about it."
Traditionally, Middleton presents the winner's trophy to both winners of the oldest and arguably the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world.
