Queen Camilla loves Lady Dior's bag for two days in a row this week - literally a handbag named after Princess Diana

Not everyone can say that the fashion house named a handbag after them, but not everyone is Princess Diana. Princess Diana was first seen wearing the bag on her arm while attending an event in Paris in September 1995. From then until its end in August 1997, the bag was a staple in Diana's wardrobe, and was even used at Diana's first (and unfortunately only) Met Gala, which she attended in December 1996.

The bag, originally called the "Chouche," was a gift to Diana from former French first lady Bernadette Chirac and "quickly became her favorite, worn day and night, and purchased several Dior pieces at Harrods upon her return to London," Tatler wrote. The bag, with its double top handles, boxy shape, and Dior's signature quilted cannage, was inspired by the wicker chairs used in the early couture shows. Princess Diana was often photographed wearing this accessory, and the bag was renamed "Lady" in 1996 in honor of the Princess.

The bag has legions of fans around the world, including one that is now quite controversial: Queen Camilla was seen wearing it for the first time this week, carried the taupe Lady Dior bag at Wimbledon yesterday, and visited Wales today.

This is of course a bit controversial, given that the bag is named after Princess Diana. We've come a long way since then, Your Highness, but was there any other bag you could have this week?"

According to Page Six, "The queen's choice to have the bag literally named after Princess Diana ruffled the feathers of several royal fans."

"The style has become synonymous with the late Princess Diana over the years, making the bag a surprising choice for the new wife of King Charles III," Page Six wrote. ("Well, 'new' is probably a relative term.")

This is the first time Camilla is known to have worn Lady Dior, but she has recently expressed an affinity for the maison. Last September, Camilla wore an elegant navy cape dress from the house to a royal dinner at the Palace of Versailles, and she wore Dior at Royal Ascot in 2023 and 2024.

Camilla is not the only contemporary woman in the royal family to wear Lady Dior. Meghan Markle wore a black version of Dior's updated D-Lite in 2021.
