Prince Harry Discusses His Mission to Continue Fighting British Tabloids in Documentary

According to The Hollywood Reporter, just as Prince William released his own documentary on ending homelessness earlier this week, Prince Harry will also be participating in an upcoming documentary, about the phone hacking scandal for which he took the case to court. He will be part of the documentary.

Hugh Grant will also participate in the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, which focuses on his "ongoing court battle and involvement in the phone-hacking scandal," the magazine writes.

Harry claimed that he was targeted by journalists and private investigators working for The Sun and the now-defunct News of the World at News Group Newspapers (NGN), which closed in 2011. That same year, news broke that some of Britain's biggest celebrities, like Harry and Grant, were allegedly victims of a scandal in which "top media newspapers were bugging landlines and installing listening devices on properties in the name of journalism," wrote the Hollywood Reporter. NGN denied in The Sun that any illegal activity had taken place."

In December, Judge Timothy Fancourt ruled in Harry's favor against Miller Group Newspapers. He said that for Harry, phone hacking dating back to 2003 was "widespread and endemic" at the Daily Mirror and that executives there had covered it up.

"Our mission continues," Harry's attorney, David Sherbourne, said in a statement on Harry's behalf outside the courtroom after the victory. 'I believe it will make a positive difference for all of us. That is why I started this lawsuit and that is why I will see it through to the end."

According to The Daily Beast, Harry settled earlier this year for a "substantial amount" after receiving a $160,000 award for hacking by The Daily Mirror's reporters between 2006 and 2011; according to The Daily Beast, ITV 's Chris Shipp said that Harry will explain why he is "fighting to expose the illegal activities of British tabloids" in the documentary.

In addition to Harry and Grant, former soccer player Paul Gascoyne and singer Charlotte Church will also appear in the upcoming documentary, and ITV News' Rebecca Barry reports that, in the words of The Hollywood Reporter, "enormous legal action has taken the royal family tradition Harry," and will give Harry's first major interview since the legal action began.

"Tabloids on Trial" will, according to an ITV press release, "hear about his continuing fight to expose the illegal machinations of the British tabloids and his mission to find out what those responsible for Fleet Street really knew as this scandal unfolded," and and will air on the network on Thursday, July 25.
