Katie Holmes casually endorses big summer shirts
Crop tops? I'm tired of it. Corsets? The true style move of the summer is the big, big button-up shirt. Katie Holmes was spotted running errands in the late afternoon of July 10, holding a Whole Foods bag and wearing an oversized button-up with mustard yellow and white stripes.
Holmes was conscious of his casual styling. This outfit was more like, "I forgot to pack a change of clothes, so I stayed over at a friend's house and wore my friend's old shirt," rather than, "I didn't have time to look in the mirror, but I pulled out the look." Well, in a chic way, it's a little of both. The actress fastened the top of the shirt with a single button and rolled up the sleeves to just above the wrist
.
Underneath the big shirt, she wore high-waisted denim shorts. Holmes completed his grocery shopping uniform with brown fisherman sandals and a black Tribeca Film Festival baseball cap.
The look is laid-back and thoughtful, in keeping with Holmes' typical street style. Last month, she layered an unbuttoned blue and white striped button-up over a midi-length designer dress (again with her trusty fisherman sandals) and a baggy, buttery yellow T-shirt for travel, paired with white jeans, in two Big Shirt Summer (BSS) was incorporated.
But Holmes is not the first star to try on BSS. Gigi Hadid wore a slouchy red crew-neck sweater with a white maxi skirt. Selena Gomez wore an Alexander Wang "boyfriend" shirt to a date.
Jennifer Lawrence stayed true to this style all season long with hip-enhancing graphic tees, large button-downs in a variety of colors, and Hanes-style short-sleeved white shirts. Just yesterday, J. Lo wore a beige shacket that extended to her mid-thigh.
