Anne Hathaway reportedly in negotiations to appear in "The Devil Wears Prada" sequel.
In anticipation of the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada," Anne Hathaway, along with co-stars Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, are in negotiations to appear in part two, Us Weekly magazine reported.
Aline Brosh McKenna, writer of the original 2006 film, is "working on a script for the next film from Disney," the magazine wrote. Producer Wendy Finerman will also return for the sequel, as will director David Frankel, Entertainment Weekly reports.
According to Puck News, Miranda Priestly (played by Streep, who was nominated for an Academy Award for the role) will still helm "Runway" magazine in the new film, "a contemporary media where the Internet has taken over and traditional publishing is no longer what it once was navigating the situation," Us Weekly writes. Emily (Charlton, played by Emily Blunt) "becomes an executive at a luxury brand conglomerate that advertises in the magazine. [What about Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway? Hathaway told "The View" in November 2022, "I think that movie [based on "The Devil Wears Prada"] was a different time. It's totally different now." Hathaway added, "But we can start over. We can find someone new to do it. Do you think they'll let us do that?
Blunt said of her 2022 role in "The View," "I would do it [a sequel] in a heartbeat to work with those people again."
According to People, a sequel to the success of the original, which ultimately grossed $326 million worldwide, could follow the plot of "Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil's Return," a sequel to a book also written by Lauren Weisberger. People writes, "The novel takes place nearly a decade after the original and sees Andy and Emily coming together as the magazine's top editors when Miranda sneaks back into Andy's life."
Screenwriter McKenna added that it could be interesting to explore the world of magazines in the digital age. It was a time when [Andy] would take a physical book to someone's house every day and flip through it." Maybe it still is, but I don't know. Those were the days."
Hathaway, Streep, and Blunt had a mini-reunion on stage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in February. The month before, Hathaway and Blunt reunited for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, where Blunt said, "We had a bomb of joy in that movie. None of us had any idea that that movie would turn out like this. I quote it every week. It will be the movie that changed my life."
The 2006 film was eventually adapted into a stage musical, premiering in Chicago in 2022 and recently debuting in London's West End. Elton John wrote the original music, and Vanessa Williams played Miranda Priestly in the London production.
