Cameron Diaz not retiring from acting in "Shrek 5" and other films.

Cameron Diaz has officially joined the cast of "Shrek 5," despite having announced her retirement from acting.

DreamWorks confirmed this great news with an X, saying, "Not far, not far... @Shrek5 will be released on July 1, 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz."

The post was also accompanied by an animation of the cute number 5 wearing Shrek's ogre ears and the caption, "The all-star returns to theaters on July 1, 2026."

At the time of writing, the tweet had over 100,000 likes and shows that fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment of the cult animated film series.

Diaz has not appeared in a film since 2014's Annie, and has spoken several times about her decision to leave Hollywood.

She told Gwyneth Paltrow in an interview with goop in 2020 that after she quit acting, "I have peace in my soul."

"I was finally taking care of myself," she said, "because I was taking care of myself.

And in 2021, she told Kevin Hart in Heart to Heart that she needed to step away for peace of mind and nurture her relationships and other aspects of her life that she had not been able to put energy into before. 'I wanted to be in control of my life,' she said. 'My day to day routine is literally something I can manage on my own. I can feel whole."

During this time, Diaz married Benji Madden in 2015 and they have a daughter, Radix, in 2019 and a son, Cardinal, in 2024.

She has also spent time developing AvaLine, a line of wines made from organically grown grapes, with co-founder Catherine Power.

And if you're as excited as I am about Diaz's big return to film, you'll be pleased to hear that "Shrek 5" is not the only project underway. iMDb reports that the star is currently in post-production on two films: with Keanu Reeves and Matt Bomer Outcome, co-starring Keanu Reeves and Matt Bomer, and Back in Action, with Andrew Scott and Jamie Foxx.
