Can you imagine Prince William and Prince Harry as Prince Arthur and Prince Albert?

The Prince of Wales' full name is Prince William Arthur Philip Louis, but if his father, then Prince Charles, had had his way, he would have had an entirely different name.

Instead, William's mother, Princess Diana, won out and William was chosen as the former prince and princess's first son; according to the Mirror, Prince Charles had wanted Albert or Arthur for his first son, but Diana rejected the idea. Andrew Morton's book, Diana: Her True Story, was published as a biography in 1992, but after Diana's death in 1997, it was revealed that it was actually an autobiography of sorts, as Diana was also a contributor to the biography.

When asked who chose the boys' names, Diana replied, "I did," and then added, "I chose William and Harry, but Charles decided on the rest [the middle names]. He wanted Albert and Arthur (first names), but I said no. It's too old!"

Sorry, I imagined William and Harry as Albert and Arthur. Anyway...

Back to Harry: in 2022, while talking to the Wellchild Award winners, Harry was talking to a kid named Henry and said, "My name is Henry, too. But everyone calls me Harry. I don't know why."

The Mirror reported that "Harry is a shortened form of Henry, a popular nickname that dates back to medieval England." Most monarchs who were given the name Henry in the past, including the infamous Henry VIII, were given the nickname Harry."

The more one knows!

By the way, Albert and Arthur are two of William's three middle names, one of which is Arthur, and one of Harry's three middle names is Albert. It was a compromise between Prince Charles and Princess Diana, but Princess Diana chose well.
