Princess Charlotte to ditch her “Sweet Girl” wardrobe for “Tween Vibe”?
Princess Charlotte is growing up, one updated grown-up outfit at a time.
The young princess recently stole the spotlight with her mother Princess Kate and aunt Pippa Middleton Matthews when they attended this year's Wimbledon men's final. Like her mother, Princess Charlotte wore a purple Safiya dress with a shirred bodice and a softly flared skirt.
The young royal's dress is reminiscent of a similar gown worn by the Princess of Wales at Wimbledon two years ago, which fashion experts believe shows the world that the young royal is growing through her fashion choices.
“It felt like a bit of a milestone, like she was moving from a sweet little girl in a smocked floral dress to a slightly more grown-up tween vibe,” Bethan Holt, style director for The Daily Telegraph, told People in a new interview.
Papouelli co-founder Nicole Robinson said that in addition to looking “adorable” in the brand's shoes, the young princess “transitioned from the very gorgeous Mary Jane shoes to an age-appropriate ballerina style.”
Princess Charlotte's personal style has certainly evolved as she has gotten older, but she is no stranger to making meaningful wardrobe choices with special messages.
When attending last year's Wimbledon Championships, the then 8-year-old royal wore a dress by Spanish brand Friki.
Princess Charlotte appears to be emulating her mother's fashionista ways, in part because the Princess of Wales is known for wearing specific outfits with meaning.
“Kate has a history of choosing witty, whimsical themes for her Wimbledon looks, but this was something new,” Bethan Holt, fashion director for The Daily Telegraph, told People about Middleton's 2024 Wimbledon wardrobe Middleton's 2024 Wimbledon wardrobe.
“Wearing purple underscores how important the role is to her and why she chose this event for her second public appearance of the year.”
It seems that Princess Charlotte is not only following in her mother's fashion footsteps, but also in the footsteps of her love of tennis.
Hello! 's recent report that the Princess of Wales revealed that Princess Charlotte had been “practicing” and that tennis is “a really great thing for young people.”
“As a family, we play a lot,” said Princess Kate, who was attending Wimbledon, adding that she and her only daughter “fill the leaderboard.”
