It is not Prince Charles' intention to launch a retail product to compete with his daughter-in-law Meghan Markle and her lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchards, says a royal commentator.

Remember the strawberry jam battle earlier this year when, in April, after Meghan Markle's upcoming lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard sent 50 jars of strawberry jam to friends, influencers and celebrities, the Buckingham Palace Shop began promoting its own strawberry jam on social media (seriously, I'm not making this up)

Now, as for what OK calls the “royal jam rivalry,” royal commentator Angela Levin said not to read too much into it: “Royal Commentator Angela Levin said, “I don't think he would do anything to take the jam away from her. It's not in his nature.”

The King has been in the business of selling products for longer than any of us probably think; OK reports that Prince Charles has been selling organic products from his Duchy Originals line since he was Prince of Wales in the 1990s. In 2010, Prince Charles' company entered into a partnership with the British supermarket Waitrose to sell his products. The King's Highgrove Organic Strawberry Preserve retails for about $8.60 and “is said to have sold out within minutes of Princess Meghan's first announcement of the strawberry jam,” OK reported. (The strawberry jam that Meghan purchased at American Riviera Orchards is no longer available for purchase.)

Megan Boyle, a public relations expert, said that Princess Meghan's campaign was likely promoted with fewer jars of jam to “build hype.”

“The suggestion that the jam was only sent to 50 people creates demand and interest,” she said. 'It may have been a low-key launch, but it's perfectly in line with the soft, homey approach of the celebrities on the receiving end.' Princess Meghan would have put a great deal of thought into who would receive these bottles, and the fact that they are individually numbered shows that they are limited edition, while at the same time not making people feel left out.”

Speaking of not being left out, there is something for everyone, whether it is Princess Meghan's strawberry jam or the King's. And when the American Riviera Orchard becomes available for purchase, you better believe we'll be ready to sample it.
