Content warning: violence, assault
In a new episode of “The Kardashians,” Kim Kardashian spoke vulnerably about the impact of a 2016 robbery in Paris on her mental health.
In a scene from the show, the SKIMS founder sat down with her sister Khloe Kardashian to talk about seeing a therapist.
“She said, 'You think calmness is a superpower. I think you're so insensitive to trauma that you're literally set on fight or flight,'” Kim said, and Chloe seemed to agree with that assessment.
She recalled a conversation with her therapist, “So she was like, ‘At some point in your life, something happened, but you were able to stay calm, and it worked, so you'll always choose calmness.’”
Chloe intuited what might have happened to her sister to prompt this change in her: “Don't you think it was robbery? You weren't cool before. Kim, you were a lunatic."
.
The founder of Good American added: “You were never calm in your teens, in your twenties. After the robbery, everything stopped. You remained calm in those situations and even said, 'My calmness kept me alive.'"
Kim also said, ‘I was a good person, but I was not a good person.’
Kim also said, ”I was a good person.
Kim listened to her sister and seemed to really take in what she was saying.
In the confessional, she said, “I mean, I remember being held up by a gun to my head, tied up, dragged around the hotel room, and the guy said, ‘You'll live if you stay calm.’”
Kim added: “I remember being told, 'You'll live if you just stay calm. But ...... I think I've become too calm so that people can take advantage of my calmness or I've become a complete robot with no emotions.”
In a conversation with Chloe, Kim told her that “Courtney was right,” explaining that her sister was right to be coping by working hard. She admitted that she was “running away from coping by staying busy.”
Kim also told us that her therapist had been preparing for the session by watching the reality series and told Chloe, “She said we all need therapy, especially you.”
KoKo simply said, “I don't doubt it.”
Later in the episode, the mother of two discussed the possibility of needing therapy with her best friend Malika Haqq, who strongly recommended it.
In 2016, Kim was robbed at gunpoint of millions of dollars worth of jewelry, including a $4 million diamond engagement ring from Kanye West, according to People. After the robbery, Kim became more careful about flaunting her expensive possessions on social media, but of course, the experience was not the only thing that affected her life.
