Look at the colors in Princess Kate's Wimbledon look - there's a meaning behind it.
Sunday's appearance at the Wimbledon men's singles final with her daughter Princess Charlotte and sister Pippa Middleton Matthews may be the last time the public will see her for a while.
Sunday marked the second time this year that Kate has been seen in public, following her spectacular return to the public eye at “Trooping the Colour” last month on June 15. Wimbledon was the perfect choice for her latest public appearance, as Kate is a huge tennis fan and has been a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016.
We don't always hear the royal ladies speaking in public, but their attire often carries a message that clearly resonates. Purple is a.) one of the official colors of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (the other is green, which Kate wore three times at Wimbledon last summer), as was the custom-made purple dress from London-based luxury brand Safiya, b.) the color traditionally associated with royalty, and c.) “the color of courage, maybe a nod to what she's going through,” Bethan Holt, fashion director for The Daily Telegraph, told People. Check, check, check.
“Kate has a history of choosing witty, whimsical themes for her Wimbledon looks, but this was something new,” said Holt, who also literally wrote Kate's book on fashion, The Duchess of Cambridge: published in 2021, The Duchess of Cambridge: A Decade of Modern Royal Style,” which was published in 2021. Wearing purple underscores how important the role is to her and why she chose this event for her second public appearance of the year.”
Holt added, “I think she looked radiant and glowing, and it was lovely to see her so relaxed. 'I'm sure a lot of people were relieved to see her so happy. She really is like a beacon of hope for a lot of people, but there is a lot of pressure on her. On the flip side, she has a team to support her, and most people don't have the resources that she does.
Kate wore a classic A-line midi dress with a beige bag by LK Bennett and a slingback by British shoe designer Camilla Elphick. The dress was shaped like Kate's princess uniform and looked great on her. The earrings were a little edgier than usual, but it really was a beautiful look.” As for Kate's decision to wear the Lucia style that day, she said, “I was so happy that she looked so elegant in her shoes. I was so happy to see her look so elegant in her Lucia shoes.” She added, “A lot of people contacted me yesterday to order the shoes and shared especially nice messages about how wonderful it was that she was supporting a small British brand and how special it was that (she) wore the shoes on that occasion! She added, “She was a great friend to me.
Kate received a standing ovation and applause as she made her way to her seat in the Royal Box at center court to watch the game. When she emerged, the crowd showed their appreciation with a standing ovation, which actually lasted for quite a while,” royal biographer Katie Nichol told ”Entertainment Tonight.” The princess was very, very moved by it. The princess was very, very moved by it.
Nicole said she feels like “the Wimbledon Championships have become synonymous with the Crown Princess. 'She's a great tennis player. She's a big tennis fan and Princess Charlotte obviously has the tennis bug. So I think it was very disappointing for the royal fans and for the princess herself that Kate didn't go. Because this was an important event for her. 0]
Nicole added that Kate looks “radiant” and “incredibly well and so happy to be there”: “I think when we see the princess, we see her looking as well, smiling, healthy, and radiant as she was. She is tolerating this chemotherapy much better now than she did in the early stages, and we can assume that she is doing well right now,” she said.
On Sunday, Kate and Charlotte attended Wimbledon, while Prince William and Prince George attended the Euro 2024 final (unfortunately, Prince Louis was not present at either sporting event). We know it has been a very, very difficult few months for the family, as Kate received a shocking cancer diagnosis and obviously underwent some pretty grueling treatments. But after this summer, I think there is a real sense that things are looking up for this family.”
Nicole confirmed that it was “unlikely” that Kate would be making any more appearances this summer, and that Kate had two appointments this summer that she really wanted to attend: 'Trooping the Color' and 'Wimbledon'. I'll check again. But right now, Nicole says, it's all about the kids.
“I spoke to a palace official earlier who said [the children] are on summer break and away from the public eye right now. The princess is not allowed to travel at the moment while she undergoes preventive chemotherapy.”
As for Balmoral, “I think there is a good chance we will see the family go to Scotland later this summer, in August, at the invitation of the King and Queen,” Nicole said. 'But I think it will be low-key and unobtrusive.'
Until next time, at least we'll be able to look back on Wimbledon fondly.
