Prince William, who watched the Euro final with Prince George, sends a heartfelt message to the defeated England team.
When Spain defeated England 2-1 in the Euro soccer final on Sunday night, Prince William and Prince George's hearts were broken for their country. [as did Princess Kate's wonderful return to Wimbledon with her daughter Princess Charlotte.
The soccer (or football, for the English) match was a nail-biting affair, with Spain scoring one goal in the opening minutes of the second half, then England tying the game, and finally their rivals scoring the winning goal in the 86th minute.
Posting his thoughts on the defeat on Instagram Stories, the Prince of Wales said, “This time it wasn't meant to be. Still we are all proud of you. Good luck @england."
William was in Berlin in his official capacity as president of the Football Association and of course as a lifelong soccer fan.
Earlier in the tournament, William congratulated England's Bukayo Saka, John Stones, and Trent Alexander-Arnold on their penalty shootout victory over Switzerland in the quarterfinals in Düsseldorf.
Harry Styles and James Corden were also at the final and sat nearby to watch the game.
As seen in a photo published by the Daily Mail, Ed Sheeran was also in the stands with his wife Cherry Seaborn; the two were seen sharing a sweet kiss after Cole Palmer's only English goal of the match.
Prince George, who turns 11 on July 22, had previously watched the Euro finals with his parents in 2021.
