Lady Gaga's Dancer Falls Off Stage at Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony
Lady Gaga appeared at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The Oscar-winning star performed along the banks of the Seine River, singing the French circus song “Mon Truc en Plume.” Inspired by French cabaret and surrounded by pink flamingo feathers created by Dior, it was a stunning performance.
Lady Gaga's performance was not without its problems, however, as one of her back-up dancers accidentally fell off the custom-made stage. The moment was captured on video and shown on the official live NBC Sports broadcast as the dancer slipped and fell backwards. Fortunately, the dancers were not injured and were later seen getting up and continuing their dance.
It seems very likely that it was the rain that caused Lady Gaga's dancers to fall off the stage. Audience members, including Princess Charlene and King Albert II of Monaco, were seen watching the spectacular performance in spite of the inclement weather. Despite the rain, Lady Gaga and her team completed an unforgettable performance, dressed from head to toe in Dior.
Celine Dion also gave an amazing performance at the opening ceremony, singing Edith Piaf's “Hymn to Love” under the Eiffel Tower. She appeared in a Dior haute couture gown that took over 1,000 hours to create in her atelier.
After the performance, Lady Gaga took to X to celebrate her iconic appearance at the Olympics. Detailing how she prepared for the performance, she wrote, “I studied French choreography, a modern twist on French classics. I bet you didn't know that when I was starting out, I was dancing at French parties in the 60s on the Lower East Side. I hope you love this performance as much as I do.”
Lady Gaga further commented on the collaboration, writing, “I am humbled to be asked by the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games to sing such a special French song, and to be asked to sing a song that honors the French people and their tremendous history of art, music and theater. I am humbled to be asked to sing this special French song and to sing a song that honors the people of France and their tremendous history of art, music, and theater. The song was sung by Paris-born ballerina Gigi Jeanmer, who famously sang “Mon Truc en Plumes” in 1961. The title means 'mine with feathers.'”
