Prince Harry on Why He Won't Bring Meghan Markle Back to the UK: 'It's Still Dangerous'

Prince Harry has opened up about why he doesn't want to bring his wife Meghan Markle back to the UK.

In a new documentary on ITV's Tabloids on Trial, which follows the court case brought by Harry and other public figures against Britain's largest tabloid newspaper, the Duke of Sussex does not feel his family is safe in his home country He told why. The Duke of Sussex believes that some of the hateful commentary against him in the press could be used by “lone actors” to harm the Sussex family.

“It remains dangerous, and all it takes is one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they read,” Harry said in the document (as transcribed by People).

“And whether it's a knife or acid or whatever, these are things that really concern me and are one of the reasons why I will not bring my wife back to this country.”

Since Harry and Meghan retired from royal life in 2020, they have argued that they no longer have the right to police protection while in the UK and that this threatens their safety in an extremely high-profile situation. They have also been denied the right to privately pay for proper police protection.

The Duke only returned to the UK in May, while the Duchess has not been back since the Queen's funeral in September 2022.

In addition to the potential impact on his physical safety, Prince Harry has been very open over the years about the psychological impact of the tabloid intrusion into his life.

For example, in a 2023 court document, his lawyer David Sherburne claimed that because of the alleged invasion of privacy by the tabloids, his clients “became immediately suspicious of anyone named in articles about them, and began to trust anyone, even at such a young I began to feel that I could not trust anyone, even at such a young age,” he claimed. He also began to experience significant difficulties in his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Chelsea Davy, and became concerned for his and her safety."

He also ‘began to fear for his own safety and that of his girlfriend,’

and ”began to fear for his own safety.

The widespread influence of tabloid activism on Harry from an early age is the reason for his strong desire to achieve justice for those who feel their privacy has been violated by the media.
