Ice Spice refutes Taylor Swift's claim that she became friends with her for “influence.”

Ice Spice's friendship with Taylor Swift has been criticized since it began, and the rapper is pondering the controversy.

In a new profile interview with Rolling Stone magazine promoting her debut album, “Y2K!”, the rapper said that the speculation by some that Swift became friends with her “as a calculated attempt at influence” really bothers her.

“It's very disrespectful to me, but why wouldn't she want to be my friend? 'Taylor makes fun of me. She's very funny. I think our personalities mesh really well.”

Ice also called Swift her “closest celebrity friend” and recalled “crying hysterically” when her manager called to tell her that the pop star wanted to collaborate with her on a remix of “Karma.”

As far as we know, this marked the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

The two women then hung out at the 2023 VMAs, as well as the Eras tour, the Super Bowl, and Coachella.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Ice mentioned another controversy involving the pop star's then-ally Matty Healy that occurred around the same time her friendship with Swift began.

The 1975 frontman could be heard laughing along with the host when he made a disturbing comment about Ice Spice's race in a February 2023 podcast appearance. This was part of the reason why Taylor Swift's fans were so opposed to her dating Healy.

However, the rapper told Rolling Stone magazine that he had never heard of such a thing and that he didn't care as much as his fans thought. 'I actually found out about it late,' he said. I didn't find out about it until, like, a month later or something like that. He apologized a lot, but I didn't realize how big of a deal it was to the rest of us. I feel like everyone just wanted something to be angry about. I wasn't angry or sad. I was just confused. I never cared about that.”

She also said she was a “big fan” of The 1975.
