Critics Claim Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Tried to 'Upstage' Prince George

On July 22, Prince George celebrated his 11th birthday, and his parents released a new portrait of the young royal on Instagram. The black-and-white portrait was taken by George's mother, Princess Kate, and the prince is smartly dressed in a shirt and suit. However, according to some critics, George's special day was ruined by his uncle and aunt, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Journalist Dan Wootton, appearing on his show “Outspoken,” noted that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex overshadowed Prince George's birthday (from the Express). According to Wootton, Harry's decision to make the announcement about the Invictus Games on George's birthday was not only insensitive, but deliberate.

“By announcing on the same day that the Invictus Games will be held in Birmingham in 2027, Prince Harry ruined the lovely birthday of young Prince George, whose pictures of them were released by Catherine Middleton,” Wootton explained in the episode. You can see how pathetic Prince Harry is. He knew it was George's birthday and he knew the pictures would be published.”

Wootton was determined to suggest that the Duke of Sussex had deliberately chosen George's birthday to deliver his news, claiming that “he is trying to steal the thunder with the announcement of the Invictus Games. Another pathetic tactic,” he claimed.

During Wootton's program, royal author Angela Levin also weighed in on the Sussex couple and their decision to make the important announcement on Prince George's birthday. 'It's very disappointing,' Levin told the host. She went on to claim that the Duchess of Sussex “likes to outsmart” the royal family and that “every time the royal family does something, she has to do something last minute, and it's all carefully controlled. I've been told many times that she knows exactly what she's doing, and make no mistake, she knows exactly what she's doing. [Prince Harry shared the news that the Invictus Games will be held in Birmingham, England in 2027 and said (via the BBC), “Join the people of Birmingham in celebrating the unwavering respect and admiration for our veterans and service community and how their courage has ignited hope will no doubt show the world how their courage ignites hope and unites us all.

Clearly, there is absolutely no indication that Meghan and Harry were trying to ruin Prince George's birthday. On the contrary, it appears that Harry simply had something to announce about the Invictus Games that happened to need to take place on George's birthday. Still, the lack of evidence will not silence those who criticize the couple.
