Kate Hudson talks with Matthew McConaughey about whether she and Matthew McConaughey will do a sequel to “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”

It seems that most of our favorite 1980s movies are getting sequels, including the recently announced part two of 2006's “The Devil Wears Prada.” Another favorite 1980s movie is 2003's “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey.

Hudson, who appeared in Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, said that she and McConaughey are “both completely open” to a sequel and that “the only thing that matters would be the script.” Hudson said she and her co-star have talked about bringing back the love story of magazine writer Andie Anderson and advertising executive Benjamin Barry 21 years later, and said of Hollywood studios, “I think they are always thinking about that.”

The cornerstone for Hudson would be a strong script, she said, telling Cohen, “It's the script that matters, and that's if Matthew and I are into the script. I think we're both totally open to it.”

(As if we haven't seen it a hundred times before.) “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” follows Andy and Benjamin after their paths cross. Andy is working on a magazine article about how to break up a man in 10 days, while at the same time Benjamin makes a work bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in the same amount of time.

In 2019, Vulture reported that Quivi and Paramount had approved a remake of the rom-com, but it never materialized. The following year, in 2020, McConaughey told E!'s Daily Pop, “I mean, ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,’ you know, I'm teasing one that could easily be a sequel. 'That was a really good one. As far as romantic comedies go, that was a really good one.”
