Simone Biles brushes off critics who take issue with her husband Jonathan Owens wearing a gold medal.
The greatest gymnast of all time is not about to let a small but vocal group of online critics targeting her husband ruin her post-2024 Paris Summer Olympics bliss.
Earlier this week, Simone Biles solidified her triumphant return to the Olympic stage by winning gold in both the women's team and individual all-around. To celebrate, her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, wore one of Biles' gold medals around his neck and posted two photos of the two of them together in Paris.
"Witnessing history every time you step on the mat 😍🔥 Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!" Her proud husband wrote in the caption." Just amazing!!!! Eight of them!!!! ❤️🤍💙"
While Owens is obviously celebrating his wife's success, some fans on social media took issue with the NFL player wearing her gold medal around his neck.
"Why is he holding it like he won it?" one Instagram user posted in the comments section of Owens' post.
"There is something very unsettling about you wearing her medal. It looks off. Give it back to her immediately," another commented.
"You have Simone's gold medal, not yours," one fan posted.
The scrutiny continued on TikTok, where social media influencer Kiera Breaugh posted a video urging Biles to "take her medal."
"Take her medal off. Was that Simone Biles flying through the air yesterday? No, you were in the audience taking notes," Breaux says to the camera.
"Why is her medal around your neck and in the photo? Is this the photo you submitted? 'What a choice. What a choice. ...... After all that happened, let her wear her medal for a photo you post. That could be a very easy PR move."
To date, the video has received over 2.1 million views.
Of course, Breaux was referring to the immediate backlash Owens received after he claimed he was the "catch" in their relationship. Owens also admitted that when he met Biles, he did not know who she was, despite the fact that she was the gymnast with the most records of all time.
Well, Biles was having none of it.
"Crazy thing is, I took a picture of my whole family with medals on them," Biles replied in the comments section of Brew's TikTok post.
"So don't assume. Leave us alone.".
This is not the first time Biles has backed her husband. In the aftermath of his "The Catch" comment, Biles took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and asked the wider Internet, "Are you done yet?"
And in an earlier interview on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast with Alex Cooper, Biles even revealed that he had lost his mind as a result of the unnecessary backlash.
"I was in a room, sitting in a chair. The video didn't show me. I was there throughout the whole video. I felt great. That's when she said this. And then I looked on Twitter and everyone was like, "This guy should get a divorce, he's mean." But I was like, he's the sweetest. He compliments the ground I walk on. Really, I've never met a man like him."
