Princess Diana's handwritten letter reveals William and Harry's "insulated status."

The royal rift between Prince Harry and Prince William shows no sign of abating. The royal siblings, who previously appeared to be very close, were reportedly not without problems in their friendship. Now, a royal photographer looks back at William and Harry's once close bond.

Some of the private letters written about Princess Diana's two sons are being offered for auction. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards spoke to The Sun about Princess Diana's words and what she might have thought about William and Harry's broken relationship.

"They were very close," Edwards told the magazine. 'I mean, they did everything together. They were inseparable." He continued, "They're not in that relationship anymore, unfortunately."

Edwards, while speaking to The Sun, also speculated that Diana's letter might change Prince Harry's mind about the royal divide. Edwards explained, "If Harry reads the letter from his mother, he might reconsider his future attitude toward his brother."

Edwards also discussed the fact that Harry left his home in England to live in California with his wife Meghan Markle. 'Harry could have had a great life here,' Edwards told the tabloid. 'He was respected here. He was loved by the media and by the public." The royal photographer suggested that Prince Harry receives far more adulation in Britain than he does in the United States. In America he is just another celebrity in a town full of celebrities. He may be wealthier, but he must be less happy."

Interviewed for the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, Prince Harry opened up about his decision to take legal action against several British newspapers. Asked if the trial contributed to strained relations with the royal family, Harry replied (via The Guardian), "Yeah, that's certainly a central part of it. But, you know, it's a difficult question to answer because if I say anything about my family, I get a barrage of abuse from the press."

He continued.

In the same documentary, Harry spoke of his desire for members of the Royal Family to join the fight against the British tabloids. He explained, "I have been very clear that this is something we have to do." I hope we can do this as a family," he explained.
