Princess Diana's Body Language at Royal Wedding Signals "Red Light," Expert Says
On July 29, 1981, Princess Diana and King Charles (then Prince Charles) were united in a lavish royal wedding. This unforgettable event was watched by 750 million people around the world, the Smithsonian Institution reported. The entire day was captured on camera, allowing body language experts to analyze Diana's facial expressions and actions at the historic occasion.
Body language expert Judy James, who was interviewed by The Sun's Fabulous, pointed out several visible "red flags" that Diana displayed on this sunny day. This "fairy-tale" event was later described by Princess Diana as "the worst day of my life."
Even if one strips away the royal theme, Diana's wedding day was a red flag fluttering like a bunting in the wind."
Of course, Princess Diana and Prince Charles announced their separation in December 1992 and finalized their divorce in July 1996. Their marital discord has been widely documented ever since, and it has long been assumed that their relationship was doomed from the start. As a result, James analyzes that Diana's body language at the wedding was ominous and foreboding.
From the time Diana arrived at St. Paul's Cathedral, the Fabulous reported that Princess Diana had to watch as her crumpled dress was smoothed out. James also noted the "anxiety" in Diana's behavior, while explaining that "the look in her eyes looks heartbreaking in retrospect." Diana is not the only bride to experience anxiety on her wedding day. However, according to James' analysis, the rest of the event paints an even darker picture.
According to body language experts, Diana appeared relatively upbeat during the wedding. Later, the newlyweds rode in a carriage through the streets of London. Fabulous reports, "When Charles turned his back to her to smile at the crowd, Diana leaned forward and stretched her neck, looking up with a very pensive expression." She was very young and eager for Charles' attention, but her pose here suggests vulnerable emotions." These purported moments of anxiety reportedly hint at Diana's uncertainty about her future.
Princess Diana's body language clearly changed when she appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace and kissed her new husband. Fabulous explained, "The gesture of leaning toward Prince Charles, head turned back, neck extended and bared, is an indication of the high confidence she has in him now that he is her husband."
The expert continued, " Her belief in a fairy-tale romance is evident here as well, despite the many red flags suggesting the opposite." Diana may have felt much anxiety and uncertainty at the wedding. But she may also have been so swept up in the magical events of the day that she forgot the red lights along the way.
