Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Announce Title for "Freaky Friday" Sequel
Actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have finally revealed the official title of the highly anticipated "Freaky Friday" sequel.
While attending D23 together in Anaheim, California on Friday, August 9, the pair announced that the second installment of their favorite original film will be titled "Freaky Friday."
Interviewed by Good Morning America at the Disney event, the stars said that "everything" in the second film will be "more freaky." (Lohan said the "switch, the music," and the "comedy" are all a step up from the original.
"(So will the emotions.)" Curtis added. 'You now have grandparents and grandchildren. I can't go into detail, but Lindsey has a 15-year-old child and I'm going to be a grandmother. So there's a lot more emotion."
Curtis then explained that the sequel is a "love letter to moms."
"It's a love letter to moms and daughters and families," she continued.
"It's a love letter to being a mother and how wonderful it is."
She also explained that viewers should be prepared to see a "freer-key" film and just "the original group."
In 2022, Curtis said she would love to make a sequel to the popular 2003 film and told her "The View" co-stars that she had already "written to Disney."
"I'm 64 years old. ...... What I'm trying to say is that I'm wide open in terms of creativity. ...... Come at me!" She said at the time. 'Then Lindsay can be the kind of sexy grandma that makes you happy to be with Mark Harmon.'
Thankfully, and to the delight of fans around the world, in March 2024 Lohan confirmed that a sequel was officially in the works.
According to the film's synopsis, the upcoming sequel will center on Anna, who now has "her own daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter."
"In overcoming the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning may indeed strike twice," the description continues.
The sequel, "Freaky Friday," is scheduled for release in 2025.
