Princess Diana would have been "heartbroken" by Prince Harry and Prince William's strained relationship, royal experts claim.
A royal expert says the late Princess Diana would have been heartbroken to witness her son's broken relationship.
Richard Kay, editor-in-chief of the Daily Mail, said in a recent interview on the Mail+ weekly talk show that had Princess Diana lived, the so-called "tussle" between Prince Harry and Prince William "would not exist."
"[Prince Harry and Prince William] are squabbling over Princess Diana's legacy. They are pulling apart Princess Diana's legacy and picking and choosing (which part suits them best)," Kay said at the time. 'I think that is a great tragedy.'
"What I knew about Diana was first and foremost her love for her sons. I think she was heartbroken." The big question is, if Diana was still with us, would that incident still have happened?"
Kay continued, stating that in his opinion and personal view, the rift between the two brothers "probably would not have existed."
Princess Diana passed away in a car accident in 1997 at the age of 36. At the time, Prince William was 15 and young Prince Harry was only 12.
In the 2017 BBC documentary Diana, Seven Days, Prince William recalled that after learning of his mother's untimely death, he "just felt completely numb, disoriented, and dizzy."
"I feel very, very confused," William said at the time. "Why me? What did I do? Why, why did this happen?
And in 2022, Prince William, speaking at the Church of Scotland's General Assembly, opened up by saying that the country was both his "happiest" and "saddest" memory, People reported.
"I was in Balmoral when I was told that my mother had died. Still in shock, I found sanctuary in the services at the Kratie Kirk that morning," he recalled. 'And in the dark days of grief that followed, I found solace and comfort in the Scottish outdoors. As a result, my connection to Scotland is forever deep."
According to the Daily Mail, Prince William and Prince Harry first became estranged in 2017, when Prince William encouraged his brother to "take things slowly" after he met and began dating his now wife, Meghan Markle.
Sources close to the family have previously told People that the brothers' relationship is "forever changed" and will never "go back to normal."
"Harry is looking straight ahead to a future with his family," the source told the magazine at the time.
According to a source who recently spoke exclusively to People magazine for its latest cover story, the Prince of Wales is currently ignoring phone calls, texts, and other attempts at communication from his brother.
