Meghan Markle's Lifestyle Brand, American Riviera Orchards, Falls Behind in Trademark Registration
Meghan Markle has reportedly hit a bit of a snag in her attempt to trademark her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
According to an exclusive report in the Daily Mail, the Duchess of Sussex attempted to "trademark" the service name "American Riviera Orchard" for "international use" prior to the launch of the brand next year.
Unfortunately, according to the publication, Markle's application contained "many irregularities that needed to be corrected" in order to be properly processed.
"The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office notified Sussex's attorney of the various issues," the publication reported." . including the misclassification of yoga blankets, picnic baskets, and recipe books."
The Daily Mail claimed that the agency notified the royalty that they "have to pay fees to various agencies around the world to register their trademarks," fees that reportedly total over $11,000.
Markle announced the final launch of her new lifestyle brand in March, teasing fans with an influencer campaign for Strawberry Jam (and a dash of controversy for Raspberry Jam and Dog Biscuits).
The Tatler reported shortly thereafter that she was stepping into the wine pool by including rosé in the brand's product list.
"To complement the reported wine launch, other products in the first tranche of releases are expected to be beverages, servingware, bar essentials, and other products related to hosting and entertainment," the Daily Mail reported at the time.
"We can expect classic, but expensive, style items.
According to the Tatler, rosé is Markle's "drink of choice."
"She even drank it on her first date with Prince Harry at Soho House in 2016," the publication reported."
Princess Meghan also reportedly enjoys a frosé blended with wine frozen and sweetened with strawberries and icing sugar for a slushy."
Markle also teased the launch of a new brand by sending certain products from the American Riviera Orchard to prominent Hollywood A-listers, including but not limited to: Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Serena Williams, Dora Ragland, among others.
Other leading influencers, actresses, and models have been presented with American Riviera Orchard jams, including Abigail Spencer, Tracee Ellis Ross, Mindy Kaling, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend, and Kris Jenner.
A source close to Markle confirmed to the Daily Mail that the Duchess of Sussex and her brand "received several notices of irregularity requesting clarification of goods and services" regarding her trademark petition.
"Such requests are typical and entirely expected when filing an international application due to differences between international standards and U.S. domestic classifications," the publication added.
In other words, the alleged mishap is not likely to delay the launch of Markle's lifestyle brand.
