Only Jennifer Lawrence can make the jelly sandal trend look boho chic
Many retro shoe styles made a big comeback this year, including ballet flats, wedge sandals, gladiators, and Vans sneakers. The latest is the Jelly Sandal. And Jennifer Lawrence is leading the charge.
The actress was photographed on Wednesday, August 7, strolling in a pair of transparent PVC fisherman sandals (with the distinctive jelly silhouette) from the Melissa brand. Looking at Lawrence's outfit, the shoes are not reminiscent of the 90s, but function as a timeless neutral. She wore crisp white parachute pants (another summer staple for Lawrence) and a slightly oversized buttercup yellow Bode button-down with floral embroidery along the collar and breast pocket.
To reinforce the casual vibe, she rolled up her sleeves to her elbows, unbuttoned half of her shirt, and layered it over a white tank. Lawrence's accessories stayed true to her eclectic, Boho chic style. A Loewe puzzle-fold tote woven of natural raffia, a long black cord necklace, and Phoebe Philo sunglasses with large rectangular black frames and orange lenses.
This is not the only sighting of Lawrence's jelly sandals; in June, she was one of the first to pick up a pair of The Row's mesh Jerry Mara flat shoes, an it shoe that sold out this summer (and was replicated in large numbers). In fact, Lawrence was ahead of the fashion curve in 2022 with her transparent pink fisherman sandals.
Yesterday's look fits perfectly into J. Lo's fashion norms, especially her summer wardrobe. Lawrence is known for her relaxed yet purposeful, quirky yet classic looks. This season is filled with breezy pants, boxer-like shorts, graphic t-shirts paired with silk midi skirts, and niche-branded dad hats (merchandise from the Menemsha Fish Market, the movie "The Skeleton Key," and Monet's "Water Lilies" exhibit). The comeback story of the Jerry Sandals trend is logically aligned with Jennifer Lawrence's summer style story.
