Eugene and Dan Levy, father and son, to host the 2024 Emmy Awards
The dynamic father-son duo of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy have teamed up for a new project that is sure to be a success.
Next month, the two will make history as the first father and son to co-host the Emmy Awards, reports the Associated Press.
“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedic geniuses to the Emmy stage as hosts,” Television Academy chairman Chris Abrego said in a statement released Friday, August 16. [Eugene and Dan Levy] are known for creating unforgettable moments of laughter on screen, and when they are together, they are super-charged,” Abrego continued. I can't wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for us.”
Greg Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, said the father-son duo's “comedic instincts and uncanny ability to capture viewers' hearts and minds” will surely produce this year's “memorable Emmy telecast.”
In response, Eugene and Dan Levy issued a statement expressing their shared excitement for this year's Emmy Awards and the big job of hosting the ceremony.
“For two Canadians who won Emmys in a literal isolation tent, the idea of being asked to host this year's ceremony in an actual theater was motivation enough,” the pair said in a statement released shortly after the exciting announcement. 'We can't wait to spend the evening with all of you on September 15.'
In 2020, the Levy clan swept the Emmys thanks to their beloved TV series Schitt's Creek. Eugene Levy won the award for Outstanding Comedy Actor, while his son Dan won for Best Supporting Comedy Actor, Best Writing, and Best Director.
They both won Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series.
In a previous interview with TODAY, Dan Levy revealed what it is like to work with his father and what he believes makes the comedy duo successful.
“You have to really respect the people you're working with, and I think that makes things a lot easier. And ...... I think he gave me the space to find my own footing.”
“What I learned from my father, in terms of comedy, ...... that there is a lot of generosity in great comedy,” Dan Levy continued. 'You have to give people space. There's a joy in knowing that we have each other's backs.”
