Meghan Markle and Prince Harry receive “secret nicknames” from staff

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left today for a royal tour of Colombia. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will visit Bogota, Cartagena, and Cali at the invitation of Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez. The Duchess of Meghan has already delighted her fans by disembarking wearing a trendy tailored vest. And according to new reports, Meghan and Harry are often referred to by their staff by “secret nicknames” in addition to their royal titles.

According to the Express, British Heritage Travel revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been given a special nickname, which was “frequently used by royal guards.” In relatively simple terms, Meghan and Harry were both given nicknames with the initials “DS” in reference to their titles as Duke and Duchess of Sussex. According to the magazine, Meghan was called “Davina Scott” and Harry was given the very folksy name “David Stevens.”

The Sussexes are not the only royals who have been given surprising nicknames by staff.

Before Kate Middleton and Prince William got the designation Prince and Princess of Wales, they apparently had very different nicknames. According to the Express, Kate and William “were known to the security team as ‘Daphne Clarke’ and ‘Danny Collins.’ These names were chosen to match the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the initials “DC.”

It is always fun to discover the nicknames used by the royal family. One of the most unusual is the science-related moniker King Charles has given to his daughter-in-law, Queen Meghan; according to Woman and Home magazine, royal correspondent Russell Myers noted, “He calls her tungsten [metal] because she is tough and unbending. It's a little odd, but I think he really respects her. He thinks she is coping well. He has been vilified in the past and has been through a lot of life crises. So I think he's trying to get her through the choppy waters of being part of the royal family,” he continued. Obviously, “Tungsten” is a totally unexpected way to refer to the former Suits star, but we like it a lot.”
