Princess Kate and Prince William Use the Funniest Fake Names During Romantic Getaway
Princess Kate and Prince William's romance began when the two were studying at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Their relationship was far from secret, and the young couple seemed to enjoy discreet weekend trips. As royalty, however, it is hard to imagine that Prince William went unnoticed during these trips. Still, it seems that the prince used some unexpected names to try to stay under the radar.
Prince William is referred to as “Princess Catherine” in his new book, “Catherine, Princess of Wales: A Biography of the Future Queen,” by royal expert Robert Jobson. A Biography of Catherine, Princess of Wales,” he writes, ”On weekends and holidays, the prince often took Catherine out to Highgrove, Sandringham, or to the cottage at Balmoral Manor. However, the young couple also stayed in hotels, although they tried to disguise their identities when they did so. On occasion, they checked into the hotel using the names “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
In addition to using a pseudonym for his romantic hotel stays, Prince William apparently tried other names during his college years: in 2001, William quietly slipped into undergraduate life at the University of St. Andrews, where he used the pseudonym “Steve” to try to remain inconspicuous. Of course, it is highly likely that most of his fellow students immediately recognized the prince. Still, it seems that Prince William likes to have a secret identity. [Jobson is not the first royal expert to talk about Prince William's fondness for pseudonyms. In his book “William and Catherine,” royal biographer Andrew Morton reveals that Kate and William visited the Seychelles together in 2007 (via the Mirror). Morton writes, “Kate and William, under the pseudonyms Martin Middleton and Rose Middleton, said goodbye to the Outer Seychelles paradise of Deroche Island, where they spent a sublime week renewing their love.” The Prince and Princess of Wales clearly enjoy their privacy and are not afraid to use pseudonyms from time to time.
