Aly Raisman “devastated” by Jordan Childs: “I don't think Jordan should give back the medal.

Aly Raisman has Jordan Childs' back.

The former Olympic gymnast, who competed in the 2012 and 2016 London and Rio Olympics, addressed the biggest controversy to come out of this year's Paris Olympics.

“I'm so devastated for her,” Raisman told Us Weekly about Childs. 'I hope things will change and she will be able to retain her medal. I'm so disappointed because I feel like it goes against the integrity of the sport and the integrity of the Olympics."

Childs was stripped of her bronze medal in the women's floor final, a big story in recent weeks.

She was awarded the medal in Paris after her coach, Cecile Lundy, insisted that Childs did not specifically deserve a point deduction and made an inquiry about her score. The inquiry was accepted and the athlete's score was raised from 13.666 to 13.766, placing her third, ahead of Romanian gymnasts Ana Barbos (initially third) and Sabrina Manecsa-Voinea (initially fourth).

However, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation later filed a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), claiming that Coach Landy's inquiry was not submitted within the required one-minute time frame.

The CAS ultimately ruled in favor of the Romanian gymnasts. USA Gymnastics then shared that it had submitted “video evidence” to the CAS proving that the inquiry had in fact taken place within the one-minute requirement, but later explained that the organization refused to consider this new evidence.

“USA Gymnastics was informed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday that the rules do not allow for reconsideration of an arbitration award, even when conclusive new evidence is presented,” the American organization wrote on Instagram.

However, Raisman, like Childs' fellow Team USA Olympians and gymnastics fans, fundamentally disagrees with the way things unfolded.

“Jordan deserves an answer as to what evidence the Court of Arbitration for Sport has,” the former gymnast said. 'I don't understand it very well. I don't understand what it means. I don't think Jordan should give the medal back.”

On August 16, Ana Barbos was awarded the bronze medal in a special ceremony in Bucharest.

Raisman explained that from her point of view, there should have been no question in the first place as to whether Coach Landy's inquiry was made in time.

“We have trained attendants. It's their job to be on time. 'If the inquiry is not received within that one minute, it cannot be accepted. So that trained official made sure that it was within one minute."

And although Childs initially finished fifth, no one disputes that her final score was worthy of the bronze medal she eventually won. Raisman said, “From there, the judges admitted they made a scoring error and upped the score.” 'I think it's really unfair. It's unacceptable to me.”

Childs' teammates Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee also publicly expressed their disappointment with the situation.
