Naomi Osaka Speaks After U.S. Open Loss: “Every time I lose, I feel like my heart is dying.

Tennis player Naomi Osaka commented after losing in the second round of the 2024 U.S. Open.

On Thursday, August 29, Osaka was eliminated from the tournament after losing to Czech Karolina Mushova 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the second round.

“It's kind of hard because you really take these losses personally. I don't mean to exaggerate, but every time I lose, I feel like my heart is dying,” Osaka said after the loss, according to the Associated Press. 'But I've tried to be more mature, learn more, talk more about losing.'

After winning the 2018 and 2020 U.S. Open and the 2019 and 2021 Australian Open, Osaka took a nearly two-year hiatus from the sport to prioritize her mental health and raising a family, but the iconic Billie Jean King in Queens, New York National Tennis Center, she had returned to the sport.

In January 2023, she announced that she was pregnant and would not compete that year. In July of the same year, she gave birth to a daughter.
