Simone Biles meets NCAA and WNBA star Caitlin Clark

Two powerhouses of athleticism, athleticism, and icons of women's sports have officially met.

On Wednesday, August 28, the most accomplished gymnast in history watched as the NCAA's all-time leading scorer set a new record when the Indiana Fever took on the Connecticut Sun.

Caitlin Clark broke the WNBA rookie 3-point record, previously held by Line Howard, while leading her team to an 84-80 victory, ESPN reported at the time.

Simone Biles, who had just finished her 2024 Paris Olympics comeback tour, was in the stands cheering on the WBNA star. Later, the two were able to meet officially for the first time, along with Olympic track star Gabby Thomas.

“The team was ecstatic to meet Simone Biles and Gabby Thomas after their win at @GainbridgeFH,” the Indiana Fever's official social media account, formerly known as Twitter, told X, where athletes posted along with a video of them meeting the legend.

In the video, Biles says to the camera: “They were so excited. Oh my god. Usually they're just like, 'Yeah,' and they just walk by. ' But they were so excited and so cool.”

Biles also posted the same video to X via his social media accounts, clearly just as excited as the Indiana Fever players.

“EVERYONE WATCHES WOMENS SPORTS 🫶🏽 So happy to be there to cheer them on!” she wrote on the platform. “My first of many WNBA games 🤞🏽.”

The meeting between Olympians and WNBA stars was significant not only for women's sports, but also in the wake of a bit of controversy surrounding Clark's failure to be selected to represent women's basketball at the 2024 Paris Games.

“It reminds me of when I was in college. And I feel like I was just a freshman in college,” she told reporters after the roster was announced and she didn't make the cut. 'So if I want my dream to come true in four years, I have to start working now. So I realized that if I want my dream to come true in four years, I have to start working now.

In addition to (finally) bringing more attention to women's sports, which are (finally) gaining popularity, Biles continues to emphasize the importance of mental health.

In a recent interview with TODAY co-anchor Hoda Kotb for her podcast Making Space with Hoda Kotb, Biles confided how essential therapy and ongoing, consistent mental health care were during the Paris Summer Olympics During the Paris Summer Olympics, Biles opened up about how essential therapy and consistent mental health care were.
