Taylor Swift takes Travis Kells to an Electric Lady Studios wedding in a Zimmerman cutout dress.
Taylor Swift is back at Electric Lady Studios. A few things are certain: First, she's not there to record new music, but to attend the wedding of model Karen Elson and studio owner Lee Foster. Second, Swift's cut-out dress looks ready to hit the runway at New York Fashion Week in spring 2025.
Holding hands with boyfriend Travis Kells, Taylor Swift stopped by her favorite Manhattan recording spot on Saturday (September 7) in a dreamy cut-out dress by Australian label Zimmerman. While she and stylist Joseph Cassell Falconer went for a fall look with classic knee-high boots and an oversized blazer for their September 6 date, her wedding guest dress was spring garden party-worthy. Saks Fifth Avenue and Net-a-Porter for $795, the dress featured a scalloped neckline and a painterly floral pattern that bunched asymmetrically along the skirt.
Swift's accessories also exuded Bridgerton's promenade energy. She carried a drawstring bag by Vivienne Westwood, one of the designers most frequently featured in her 2024 wardrobe, which coordinated with the baby blue flowers on her dress. She also showed off an impressive array of jewelry, including diamond earrings by Larkspur & Hawk, a custom-made tennis bracelet by Wove x Michelle West, a vintage Cartier necklace, and a gold Lizzie Mandler bracelet. Christian Louboutin white sandal heels and the return of her signature red lipstick completed the look.
Travis Kells looked like a high-profile wedding date as he and Swift visited Electric Lady Studios for the first time (as far as the public knows). He wore a black Vivienne Westwood button-down top, pants, and coordinating loafers. Couples who dress together stay together.
These outfits, like the Versace denim corset Swift wore to the Chiefs game on September 5, were an overnight change from their date outfit the night before. Of course they were: the two were attending a wedding. Swift's cut-out dress and Kels' shearling seemed ready to set sail in Newport Harbor. The night before, the two matched their moody black attire with shades of gray.
Even if they did not adhere to the bride and groom's dress code, this change would not be so surprising. Swift's wardrobe also encompasses much within her own definition of the album's “era” and its corresponding fashion parameters. Take, for example, the fashion for Tortured Poets Department: the album's visuals evoke the corsets, ruffles, and poet sleeves of Westwood, Elena Velez, Celine, and others. Last summer, she entered the recording studio in a Ralph Lauren eyelet lace look and spent her last Independence Day before meeting Kells in the celebrity-loved sundresses of Dohen.
As for her designer of choice, Zimmerman frequently appears in celebrity wardrobes, regardless of the season or current creative project. Beyonce, Kendall Jenner, and Katy Perry have all worn the label's floral linen dresses on several occasions.
Zimmerman also plays a special role in another Swift album cycle: in the video for evermore's “Willow,” Swift performs in a white Zimmerman dress. The piece is currently on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Swift's cropped Zimmerman dress is perhaps not a sign of a new fashion chapter, but a perfect fashion farewell to the summer of 2024. Perhaps this is a sign not to turn over your closet for fall just yet.
