Demi Lovato Says Child Stars 'Need Protective Measures'
Demi Lovato defends child stars in her directorial debut documentary.
The film features a cast of famous Hollywood actresses, including Drew Barrymore, Kenan Thompson, Christina Ricci, Raven Symone, JoJo Siwa, and many others.
In the film, the actors, actresses, and performers address and reflect on their own lives growing up in the Hollywood spotlight as child stars.
In the film, Lovato advocates for the protection of young people working in the entertainment industry and says that as a child star herself, she knew that “everyone wants to be successful in the industry at a young age.”
“When I hear that these kids are making tens of millions of dollars, it just scares me. They need protection.”
In a particularly heartbreaking clip and voiceover, Lovato talks about a so-called “suicide petition” that she claims was signed by “popular girls” in the industry, urging the young child star to take her own life.
