Katy Perry talks about her divorce from Orlando Bloom.
Katy Perry is ready to be brutally honest about her 2017 breakup with Orlando Bloom.
The two met in January 2016 at a Golden Globes after-party and dated for a little over a year before splitting up the following February. During a recent chat with Alex Cooper on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Perry opened up about why they broke up in 2017 and why she was really ready to rekindle their romance when they reunited the following year.
“We weren't serious from day one. Because he had just gone through a period of abstinence and was determined,” she said, according to Page Six. I had just gotten out of a relationship, and I just felt like I couldn't do this anymore. I needed to swim in a different pond, but I had to do a lot of real work."
[6Perry explained that after Bloom attended a week-long retreat at the Hoffman Institute in California called the Hoffman Process, it became clear that she and Bloom were looking for something different.
“He went there and we weren't playing cat and mouse anymore. And I was like, 'This is boring. ' And I was like, 'This is boring. I was very used to this push and pull. Because once I got it. I was playing the game.”
After their breakup, Perry and Bloom spent what she describes as “a really hard year” apart, but reunited after she herself decided to attend a Hoffman retreat.
“When Witness came out and things started to change, I thought I really loved myself. I thought I really loved myself and I thought I had that center, but in fact that center was all created from the outside. I went to the Hoffman Institute and it changed my life. It helped me connect my head to my heart, how I think about myself.”
Even though the exes had not lost contact during their year-long breakup, Perry said they only spoke “sort of” during that time because Bloom was “bound” to him, and when they finally reunited, she took the initiative. 15]
“He was vacationing at a place I was doing a show near where he was vacationing, so I was like, 'Hey, I'm going to go!' ' I was like, 'I'm just going to go!'” she said of her reunion with Bloom,
and she was ‘just like, ’I'm just going to go.'
More than six years after their reunion, Perry and Bloom, who became engaged in 2019 and had daughter Daisy in 2020, are still going strong, thanks in part to their balance as a couple.
“We all have our strengths, and our opportunities for growth,” he said. But one of his strengths is that when I fall apart, he's the anchor,” she says. 'Usually I'm like, alpha, alpha, testosterone, testosterone. I have this. But the truth is, I need help. I need a partner.”
