NFL Promotes 2024-2025 Football Season with Video Featuring Taylor Swift
The National Football League (NFL) is set to open its 2024-2025 season, and the league is tapping into arguably its most influential new fan base to get viewers excited.
On Monday, September 2, the league's official X account posted a promotional video on the platform formerly known as Twitter, featuring month-by-month clips of highlights from last year's historic season.
In one clip of the superstar, she is in the stands, dressed in Kansas City Chiefs attire, cheering on her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce; in two clips, Swift is seen celebrating and smiling next to her boyfriend's mother, Donna Kelce. and in another clip, she is seen walking through the stadium tunnel wearing a custom Kansas City Chiefs jacket.
Swift's final clip, of course, shows her kissing boyfriend Kelsey after his team won the AFC title and a ticket to the Super Bowl (the team later defeated the San Francisco 49ers).
Shortly after Swift began publicly dating Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl winner, and began watching his games in person, the NFL saw a surge in viewership, especially among women. [For example, last year's NFL divisional playoff round averaged 40 million viewers, the highest since 1988, and Swift had the highest regular-season viewership among women since tracking began in 2000.
In addition, ticket sales and NFL merchandise - especially Kelce jerseys - also increased dramatically after the two went public with their romance; in September 2023, when Swift attended a game between the Chiefs and Chicago Bears, StubHub representatives reported that in just 24 hours confirmed that ticket sales had nearly tripled. At the same time, Kelce jersey sales increased by 400%, making the tight end one of the top five sellers in the NFL.
According to Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, she is also an avid fan and has even come up with a few football plays of her own.
βShe's very interested in football and asks a lot of great questions. She's already drawn up plays, so we may have to put one in,β Mahomes, a close friend of Kelce's, said in a recent NFL on NBC interview with Chris Sims.
β[The attention] has gone up another notch,β he explained. '"I think it was cool to see girls and women really embracing watching football. As a father of girls, it's great to see little girls and daughters really enjoying the time they spend watching football with their dads.
