Selena Gomez Says “Fuck Off” to People Who Pity Her for Not Being Able to Carry a Child

Selena Gomez has some words for those who think they are automatically “victims” for choosing to divulge that they have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder or that they cannot carry a child.

Speaking to a group of women at a recent “Women in Film” event in California, Gomez opened up about her decision to become vulnerable and share what many consider the more difficult parts of her life.

“I truly believe that there is no shame in being vulnerable and telling people when you need or want help,” Gomez said in a now-popular video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. 'So I told them about my inability to carry a child. Yes, I'm bipolar. That's my life. That's my life.

Gomez, who also spoke directly to her sister Gracie, who was in attendance, explained that she truly wants to be “an advocate for women,” adding that her desire to stand up for others is “why I share.”

“So I want to be honest,” she continued.

“Because everyone is going through something. I don't put it all together. I am who I am and that's all that matters.”

Gomez then urged everyone present, including her sister, to “not let anyone tell you that you're not a good person.”

“Screw anyone who says you're a victim,” she continued. 'In my mind, you are a survivor.'

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair magazine, the singer and actress revealed that she is physically unable to safely carry a pregnancy to term.

“I've never said this before, but unfortunately I can't carry my own child to term. 'There are a lot of medical issues that could put my life and my baby's life in danger. It's something I've had to grieve for some time."

The “Only Murderers in the Building” star then spoke about her plans to eventually start her own family.

“It's not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I just kind of figured it would be like everyone else's. I'm much better off that way.” I think it's a great possibility for me and I'm very happy that there are wonderful people who are willing to do surrogacy and adoption.”

“I've really come to appreciate that there are other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I am one of them. I'm excited to see what that journey will be like, but I know it will look a little different.” After all, I don't care. It's mine. It's my baby.”
