Queen Camilla could be the first royal to join TikTok
Something from the royal family may be coming to your FYP.
No one from the British royal family has joined TikTok yet, but Queen Camilla has not ruled out the possibility of becoming a BookTok star.
The Queen's Reading Room charity, founded by Camilla to celebrate literature and foster a love of reading for all ages, already has a solid presence on Instagram.
Vicky Perrin, the charity's CEO, told The Telegraph on September 19 that “you can never say never” on the subject of entering TikTok, adding, “I'm very happy to see BookTok explode.”
“In my opinion,” she continued, “there is nothing more important than trying to get the message out that books belong to everyone... The great thing about BookTok is that people from all walks of life can say, ‘This is the book that moved me.’”
Perrin said the charity is not focused on people reading serious literature, as long as readers pick up the books.
“For us, it doesn't matter what we read,” she told The Telegraph. 'I think BookTok has done a great job of breaking down those barriers.'
The potential move to TikTok is part of Queen Camilla's ongoing efforts to encourage reading and connect with young readers.
However, the royal family already has a successful podcast through her Queen's Reading Room charity.
“We now reach about 12 million people in about 171 countries around the world,” Perrin told The Telegraph, adding, “It's great to see the appetite for what we're doing and to see people connecting with reading and books.” [And while younger members of the family like Prince William and Kate Middleton have not taken the leap to the platform, perhaps Camilla can show them how it is done one day.
