Julia Roberts' brother, Eric Roberts, apologizes for remarks that disparaged her career.

Julia Roberts' brother Eric Roberts is making amends.

Actor Eric Roberts, 68, is the author of the newly published memoir Runaway Train: or, The Story of My Life So Far.

For years, Eric has taken credit for Julia's success as an actress and for his daughter Emma Roberts' success.

In his book, Eric wrote, “I hope Julia accepts this public apology. It was a foolish statement."

He also said.

The actor also opened up about his drug addiction and how it affected his relationship with Julia and his other sister, Lisa Roberts. He writes, “I wouldn't be surprised if they have suffered from PTSD ever since it was too dangerous to be around me.” 'Lisa and Julia needed love and protection.'

How Eric allegedly helped Julia Roberts get started is that he was a well-known actor at the time, appearing in such films as 1985's “Runaway Locomotive” and 1984's “The Pope of Greenwich Village.”

Speaking to Vanity Fair in 2018, he said, “If it weren't for me, neither Julia Roberts nor Emma Roberts would exist as celebrities or actresses, and I'm very proud of that,” which sparked much discussion. When Julia first came to New York, I went to William Morris and said, 'Which one of you is going to sign my sister Julia?' I said,”

.

But his outlook, as he now recounts in his memoirs, is very different. I will probably end up as Julia's brother and Emma Roberts' father for the rest of my life. I want to step down proudly and gracefully. That's one of the reasons I wrote this book.”

Eric shares Emma with Kelly Cunningham, and the two separated when the “Scream Queens” actress was a baby. It is unclear what Eric and Emma's relationship is like these days, but they have not been photographed together in public since Emma was a child.

On the “Still Here Hollywood” podcast earlier this year, Eric admitted that he was “not supposed to talk” about either Julia or Emma; as reported by Us Weekly, he added, “But I will.”

Meanwhile, according to People, Emma does not mention her father in interviews.

In his book, Eric admits that “losing Emma” in a custody battle with Cunningham was one of the most devastating consequences of his addiction.
