Katie Holmes' under-$150 slingback flats are even more sophisticated than heels

Arriving from the sidewalks of Manhattan: Katie Holmes found her most sophisticated fall work shoes.

The “Our Town” actress took time out from Broadway rehearsals on October 2 to attend a few meetings and take a few work calls. Her Franco Sarto shoes, mimicking the silhouette of the best slingback heels, were slinky, strappy, and fit for a power dresser. Holmes' slingback flat shoes were a creamy white, accented with a small ribbon strap at the top.

These flats are exactly what I, as a fashion editor with sensitive feet, look for in an all-day, everyday shoe. The pointed toe and dainty bow detail make them pretty enough to wear in front of style-conscious colleagues, but the low heel height means I don't have to change into sneakers on the subway ride home. Even better, they go with jeans and a T-shirt or a work dress. In short, it's the perfect balance of comfort and chic.

From what I glimpsed of Holmes' attire, she looked the same way. Slingback flats, a pleated dusty mauve dress, a collarless leather jacket, and a black leather handbag. A ballerina-like bun at the top of her head completed her toe-up look.

Katie Holmes opted for It sneakers and trendy flats. Usually, she's out on the streets of New York City, either creating the sneaker trend with the help of Nike and Adidas or championing the versatility of colorful slippers with her Blueberry Mary Janes. When she's feeling adventurous, she'll sometimes wear punk shoes like Miu Miu's buckled ballet flats. That's enough: Holmes only stops wearing comfort casual when she's wearing shoes that feel worthwhile. Today's slingback flats pass that test.
