Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz showcase decades of friendship in coordinating designer corset dress
Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz have been best friends for more than 20 years now. Although they are married to luxury fashion billionaire François-Henri Pinault and actor Javier Bardem, respectively, Hayek told the Arabic Vogue earlier this year that she considers Cruz her “partner” for life. And they were indeed paired at the WSJ. magazine's 14th annual Innovator Awards on Tuesday, October 29. At the event, held at New York's Museum of Modern Art, Bandidas' co-stars posed arm-in-arm and chatted with each other. They walked the red carpet together, after which Cruz presented Hayek with his award.
Hayek wore a red crepe twill strapless bustier gown by Balenciaga with black leather knife pumps. The dress, a nod to last year's cherry red trend, featured a boxy bustle that created an exaggerated hip silhouette. The 58-year-old beauty accessorized her look with a huge diamond cocktail ring, a black leather clutch bag, a sleek blowout, and a naked manicure. Her makeup was a peachy nude color on her lips and eyes.
Cruz opted for a sparkling silver cowl-neck gown with a thigh-high slit by Dolce & Gabbana. She paired this draped dress with a matching silver clutch bag, silver earrings, and silver platform sandals. The brunette waves were highlighted with caramel highlights, which looked great against her brown eye makeup. Like Hayek, Cruz's nails embraced the naked manicure trend.
When Cruz interviewed Hayek for the May 2024 Vogue Arabia cover, the two gently discussed the origins of their friendship.
“The Spanish press asked me who I wanted to work with, and I said Penelope Cruz. We started talking and Penelope Cruz was supposed to come to Los Angeles to audition and meet my agent.” We were just starting out in our careers, so I said, 'Why don't you stay at my place? I remember the smile on your face when I picked you up and met you for the first time. Over the next 20 years, we have been firm friends. We hit it off instantly. It was as if we had spent a lifetime together."
[10The two would later work together on the 2006 film Bandidas and the 2011 animated film Puss in Boots.
I am not the only one begging for these two to make another movie together. They've already done a bank robber's partner-in-crime style film, and their coordinated designer corset dresses make me dream of a “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” or “First Wives Club” inspired development. Hollywood, take note.
