Kendall Jenner's birthday outfit is an autumn ode to the minimalist basics of the '90s.

Kendall Jenner celebrated her 29th birthday on Sunday, November 3. This seemed like the right tone, albeit after the havoc she wreaked last week with her annual Halloween party. In an intimate evening shared on Instagram the next day, the model looked blissful in her favorite 90s minimalist basic: a black crew-neck cardigan with matching black buttons and a simple white T-shirt.

Admittedly, it's hard to find a fall cardigan like Jenner's. For me, it's all about the weight. I want something strong and durable enough to hold its shape for many seasons to come, yet soft and thin enough to enjoy a variety of layering options from season to season. Jenner's cozy knits are just the perfect balance of form and function. By the light of a birthday candle, it's hard to tell what sweater she's wearing. But make no mistake, La Ligne's lightweight cashmere cardigans come in basic black and gray, as well as several pastel colors.

But the best part of Jenner's birthday ensemble has to be her chunky gold stud earrings. Sure, they may be 80s or 90s vintage, but these days, celebrities like Selena Gomez and Bella Hadid can't seem to get enough of Misoma's wavy designs.

The founder of 818 pays homage to 90s minimalism from head to toe. She complemented her outfit with a rich-girl-inspired blonde dye job inspired by the iconic It girls of the 90s.

“It took me two days to get this gorgeous shade of golden blonde,” hair colorist Jenna Perry told Vogue magazine after Jenner was made blonde in September during New York Fashion Week. She's really inspired by the '90s and Caroline Bessette-Kennedy right now.”

Jenner's birthday tablescape was a little more 2024-ish than 1994: she utilized the coquette ribbon trend with a modest cake and ribbon-wrapped candles. The burgundy cake was inscribed with the message, “Witches never get old.”

Don't be fooled by the decorative ribbons. Jenner is still a minimalist. Case in point: even on her birthday, she made time to roll up her sleeves and go horseback riding in a plain T-shirt and black pants.
